Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hardcourt
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.
Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging year, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.
Now collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's first title following the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after March of that year.
Success also means Medvedev has secured 21 victories at 21 distinct events.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my children at once, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.
"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.
His counter-punching play style and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to question if his ability to play at the elite level was over.
However the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced service.
The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the last five games to take the lead.
The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional victory, took control to force a third set.
The opponent saved four initial break points in a close third set before the champion broke to 15 to serve for the match.
Fittingly, he secured the title with a shot at the net, with Moutet unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
